Springtime Spruce Up!
April 21, 2019
We've been inspired by the beautiful spring weather to get busy with the paint and brushes to give The Lucken its annual spruce up. When we bought the cottage one of the first jobs we tackled was the faded cream and burgundy exterior. Blue and white was an obvious choice for the seaside location. We think it looks great, even if we do say so ourselves!
We have a busy holiday season in prospect and it's great to see that we have more repeat bookings this year than ever before. It's lovely to know that folk want to come back to The Lucken. For one couple it's their fourth visit and another have booked four weeks this year, choosing to spend Easter, summer holidays and Christmas at our cottage!
One local attractions we can't recommend highly enough is Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre. The air station is unique in Scotland as it was active throughout both world wars as a major training centre for pilots. The exhibits aim to show the human side (and cost) of the pilots endeavours. We particularly enjoyed seeing the 1940s living room. It really takes you back in time. The volunteers who run the centre have meticulously recreated the period, from the valve radio, the dinner set, the ornaments, even down to the bloomers drying in front of the fire!
One of the highlights of our tour was meeting the volunteers who have painstakingly restored some of the aircraft and their enthusiasm was infectious. Kids would love the centre, there's even a dressing up area with uniforms and hats. Of course we couldn't resist having a go. Who said it was just for little kids!
We stopped off for lunch at Charleton Fruit Farm. Although it's a bit early for PYO berries we had a delicious lunch and dined alfresco, making the most of the spring sunshine.
A walk on Lunan Bay beach helped burn off some of the calories. We climbed up to the ruins of Red Castle to admire the beautiful views. The whole of the bay was spread out before us, an expanse of golden sands, right across to Ethie Haven.
We certainly count ourselves lucky to live somewhere with such an abundance of stunning beaches.
Here's hoping this summer will bring plenty of bucket and spade days!
